Sideshow Collectibles have posted a preview for the upcoming Vampirella ‘Toned Up’ Statue. Pre-Orders will be available starting May 23rd, 2013. Sideshow is also offering a chance to for collectors to win this statue.

Playmates Toys had released Snakeweed, Baxter Stockman, and Leatherhead as part of the first wave offered in 2013. The figures are all based on the new animated series and have started to ship to retailers in late April/May 2013. Leatherhead is not in-scale with his television series height. While this is not that big of a deal, it would have been nice to have a larger figure about three times the size of this. Leatherhead measures 4-1/2″ tall and features some of the best sculpting that we’ve seen so far in this line.

Sculpt:

Leatherhead has an all new sculpt and has very limited articulation. His body has some incredible detailing for the alligator skin and shell. The sculptors have done an incredible job on this. However, he is way too short and completely out of scale with his television appearance. His head can swivel and his long snout remains closed. His arms and legs are on ball-joints and his tail can also swivel. His wrists and ankles are also wrapped in cloths with a circular hole sticking up from the cloth.

Paint:

Leatherhead’s skin is painted in dark green, and his shell is off-white. His cloths are dark brown. His chest is also off-white with some sloppy paint apps that mix the dark green on the white chest. Some are better than others but this is a quality control issue.

Articulation:

He has 6 points of articulation – swivel head, ball-jointed shoulders and legs, and a swivel tail.

Accessories:

None.

Overall:

We’ve discussed how Baxter Stockman and Snakeweed were also out of scale, and now Leatherhead is shorter than both of them. Playmates Toys needs to get their priorities straight and give collectors’ better in-scale figures. Leatherhead especially needs to be at least 10 inches tall and he would have worked out a lot better. Even with 6 points of articulation and unique sculpting, Playmates Toys probably could have found buyers for a figure that size.

This week we are celebrating our 1 year Anniversary with a contest. What we are asking you, the reader, is to showcase your toy collection in an all out action figure battle. We want to see some creativity in the environment you use.

What You Need To Do:

Create your own action figure battle scene using your collection. An example you can do is to take your figures to the sandbox and create a G.I. Joe Cobra Desert troopers scene and put them against your Star Wars Sandtroopers. Don’t forget to include the leaders, vehicles, playsets, and anything else you might have. Use your Marvel Legends figures and put them against your DC Universe Classics figures. The sky is the limit on what you can use including software like Photoshop, diorama’s, nature, and anything else that you can think of. Use any action figure line you wish by any toy maker done in any scale.

You will need to also need to write a short paragraph explaining what you did, what figures you used as well as any software, diorama’s, and/or outside environment you used for your entry. If you made a diorama or used custom figures we ask you to send in your recipes and how you made it. Your entry may be forfeited without it.

How To Submit Your Entries:

In this day and age, it’s all about social media. So that is what we are going to use for the most part. We want you to place your entries on our Facebook page, Tweet it to us, we’ll pin it on Pinterest (just let us know), email it to us at webmaster@toyhypeusa.com and we will post it on the Contest page (see above) on the site, or send us your submission using our comments below.
